The Indian constitution, therefore, has banned the practice of untouchability and made provisions for protection against discrimination and created reservations in education and jobs. The Initiative for Caste Equity (ICE) works closely with SC-ST Cell at IIT Delhi works towards implementing Government of India reservation policies and ensuring a discrimination-free environment with an aim to build an inclusive community on campus.

Transformative Leadership in STEMM (TLS) Workshop
Jointly organised by the Initiative for Caste Equity (ICE) and SC/ST cell, the TLS Workshop is a flagship initiative of IIT Delhi to address the under-representation of SC/ST communities in academic leadership within the scientific and technical fields. The TLS workshop empowers advanced-stage Ph.D. scholars from the SC/ST community to pursue faculty positions in premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, and other higher educational institutions (HEIs). Its core components include mentoring in: Research Presentations, Teaching Demonstrations, Skill-Building Sessions, Confidence Building Session, Networking and Industry-Academia Interface. . So far, two successful sessions of the TLS workshops have been conducted, the first in February 2024 and the second in January 2025. These sessions collectively engaged 79 PhD scholars (30 in the first cohort and 49 in the second) from SC/ST communities, representing diverse STEMM fields such as Electrical, Mechanical, Biological, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Civil Engineering. Participants hailed from institutions across the country. (Please go to TLS tab to know more about it)

IGES conducts sensitisation initiatives that promote awareness, build understanding, and embed gender equity into everyday campus life. These efforts target all sections of the academic community—from new students and faculty to staff—ensuring everyone understands their rights, responsibilities, and the institutional mechanisms in place to address discrimination and harassment. To support a gender-aware culture, IGES organises orientation sessions for incoming undergraduate and PhD students, as well as newly joined faculty members. These sessions cover institutional policies on gender discrimination, POSH guidelines, and available support systems.

The office also develops educational tools, such as an interactive assignment for first-year undergraduates focused on consent, sexism, and gender dynamics. In public spaces, IGES are in forces key messages through visual media. Informative hoardings on POSH and inclusion are placed in hostels, eateries, and academic zones across the campus. Cultural engagement—through exhibitions, film screenings, and thematic campaigns—further strengthens awareness and empathy around gender issues in STEM and higher education.
